The Urleben health kiosk is one of the five health kiosks in the municipalities of Blankenburg, Bruchstedt, Kirchheilingen, Urleben and Sundhausen, which was realised by Pasel-K Architects as timber construction experiments with bus stops.

Construction, Climate, Sustainability

The experimental character of the project serves the development of prototype buildings on the one hand and the development of new collaborative processes on the other. Both have a model role that radiates far beyond the region. The health kiosks thus generate a concrete contribution to a new regional building culture that sees rural areas as an opportunity to create something new and reconciles innovation and contemporary design with local tradition.

In terms of their construction, the health kiosks are also individual model projects with regard to different timber construction methods. Traditional timber frame constructions and solid wood construction methods were planned. In order to illustrate the possibilities of timber construction as an example, experiments were carried out with roof/wall structures and façade constructions in equal measure. Resource-saving construction and circularity are firmly anchored in the basic premises of the project. For example, the 'flying' pink podium of MVRDV from Rotterdam could be given a new purpose at the land centre and at the health kiosks (2nd Life).

The health kiosks are climate-oriented and ecological on the one hand in terms of their materialization as untreated wooden structures, as well as in terms of their extensive self-sufficiency and the supply of solar energy, which is integrated on the roofs and will also supply the electricity for the connected electromobility for e-bikes and e-cars. However, the experimental buildings insulated with wood wool or blown-in cellulose are particularly sustainable from a social point of view, as they involve various local actors in the process in numerous collaborative formats and thus have an integrative effect far beyond the 'architectural product'. In concrete terms, this means that the health kiosks (and also the rural centre) were built jointly.
